pre-departure post

Currently, we are packing and preparing research for our debates. We have been told we will have and orientation and welcome party when we arrive in Tokyo, and will then move on to our first event stop, a debate at Tokai University. The resolutions we know we will be debating on the tour are:

  • That the Japanese government should allow the employment of migrant workers from overseas in all or most workplaces by amending the immigration laws
  • That the US government should ratify the Kyoto protocol
  • That the internet makes people really happy

We are looking forward to the adventure!

Good luck on the packing, Carly - don't forget an umbrella!

Wonderful idea to set up this blog - I look forward to following your exploits and arguments here, especially your debates on topic #3!

Oh yeah, and if you need research help (e.g. hard to find English sources), remember to use this site as your virtual card-cutting portal.

Have a great time in Japan. I will be watching you from a far (actually from a near - just look hard off the western coast). I am very proud of you. You are a great ambassador of the United States. When you went to Engalnd you came home with the "Limey". I don't think Heavy "D" would appreciate a similar aquisition from the Far East.

I am so glad, Carly, that you're having a wonderful experience. You now have seen some of the places I really love. Fukuoka was less than 2 hours from my home in Sasebo. We'd always go there when we wanted some shopping fun or other good times. We've got wonderful friends and have had joyous and memorable times on Shikoku Island in Uwajima and Matsuyama. Agh, I miss the hot springs of both those areas and all the yummy food and friendly people. Keep having a great time. -Tess
